PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently specify an end of information recorded in a recording area of an optical disk used of multi-layer recording. SOLUTION: A DSP (Digital Signal Processor) 32 of a DVD (digital video disk) recorder 100 is provided with: a search range determination section 321 which determines a target layer including a search range for searching an end of information recorded in the recording area; a presence detection section 322 which detects through an optical pickup 1 the presence of recorded information in each layer contained in the target layer at a prescribed position in radial direction in a recording area of the optical disk 2 when the a plurality of target layers are searched; a detection position setting section 323 which sets a next detection position based on the detection result of the presence detection section 322; and a driving direction section 324 which moves the optical pickup 1 to the set detection position.
