PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift position detection device capable of detecting a shift position without increasing the number of sensors and the number of wires. SOLUTION: The shift position detection device for detecting the shift position of a manual transmission has a shift linkage fulcrum 11 as a spherical body provided on a lower part of an operation lever 10 connected with an operation knob 17; a detection slit 20 provided in a lattice-like shape on at least a part of a surface of the spherical body; an encoder 21 for detecting the passing number of the detection slit 20; and ECU 22 for detecting the shift position of the manual transmission based on the detected passing number of the detection slit 20.
