A latching mechanism for joining separable insulated connectors employs a plurality of finger contacts (11) to create an interference fit with an ele ctrode probe (1) of an elbow connector (21). The electrode probe enters a cy lindrical grouping of the plurality of finger contacts and a projection (13) causes an interference fit between the finger contacts and' the electrode p robe. The finger contacts latch the connectors (21, 31) together and require a removal force greater than the latching force required to latch the conne ctors. The latching mechanism provides a multi-point current path between an elbow connector and a power transmission or distribution apparatus and prov ides operator feedback to indicate the latching of the mechanism.
