<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of fixing high-gloss toner images, without causing increase in apparatus size and cost, by using an image forming apparatus equipped with an automatic both-side imaging mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus 20, at the time of setting to a glossy toner image creation mode, without imaging processing being performed by an imaging device 21C, a sheet-like recording medium P is transported to a fixing device 1, subjected to first heat and pressure treatment (preheat treatment) by a fixing roller 4 and a pressure roller 5 and is transported to a both-side reversing unit 31.
