<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retainer for a radial ball bearing having improved lubricity in pockets and a radial ball bearing. <P>SOLUTION: This retainer 20 for a radial ball bearing is formed by generally forming it in a generally ring shape and forming the pockets 18 therein at multiple positions in the circumferential direction for rollingly retaining a plurality of balls 5 disposed between the raceway surfaces of the radial ball bearing. Each pocket has an opening part T into which a ball is pushed and a recessed surface part 29 at which the ball is positioned. A pair of claw-like parts 16a, 16b are formed near both ends of the opening part. The recessed surface part comprises a first spherical recessed surface part 21 spherically formed on the bottom surface side opposed to the opening part, second spherical recessed surface parts 23 spherically formed on the claw-like part side, and a cylindrical recessed surface part 22 cylindrically formed around the rolling center axis of the balls between the first spherical recessed surface part and the second spherical recessed surface parts.
