GLASS SUBSTRATE FOR MAGNETIC DISK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate for a magnetic disk wherein influence of a foreign matter is extremely reduced in the manufactured magnetic disk and in its manufacturing step even though invasion of the foreign matter is inevitable. SOLUTION: In the constitution of the glass substrate for the magnetic disk for forming a magnetic layer to manufacture the magnetic disk, the foreign matter contained in the glass substrate exists in the substrate surface layer of the glass substrate made of amorphous glass and the size of the foreign matter is such a size that does not hinder floating of a magnetic head when the magnetic disk is manufactured by forming the magnetic layer for magnetic recording on the glass substrate and assembled in a magnetic recording device.
