<p>Malleable cast iron is obtained which has guaranteed tempering properties i.e. which can be just sufficiently graphitised at a certain temp. and time. The method comprises taking samples either from the melt before casting and/or from the alloy at any time between casting and the anneal. The samples are heated at a temp. 5 to 215 degrees C from the m.p. and for a time required for completion of graphitisation which is detd. by measuring the change in the specific volume using a dilatometer, and a known extrapolation method.</p> |
