PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a dewatering time by swiftly discharging a large quantity of water flowing into a basket together with the laundry and to prevent damage of the laundry such as breakage by reducing the distortion and stress of the laundry increasing in the high-speed dewatering in a method and an apparatus for dewatering the laundry put in the basket with water permeability by squeezing the laundry by a presser body. SOLUTION: The speed of activation of pressurization force by the presser body 1 is increased by forcibly sucking out excessive water and air in the basket 2 by a suction machine 23 such as an ejector or a vacuum pump when the squeezing step is started. The sucking operation can be started more quickly by using the ejector as the suction machine 23, and such an advantage that the operation such as switching of a drain channel 24 is not required. Steam, compressed air or water is used as the driving fluid for the ejector. The dewatering time can be further reduced by continuing the suction for a while after the activation of the pressure of the presser body 1 in the squeezing step. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
