PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a styrene modified polyethylene based resin pre-expansion particle which excels in molding workability even after the scattering of a blowing agent of a pre-expansion particle and has high crack resistance. SOLUTION: The method for producing a styrene modified polyethylene based resin pre-expansion particle comprises: adding a styrene monomer into an aqueous suspension containing a polyethylene resin particle, thereby making the polyethylene resin particle impregnate the styrene monomer and polymerize with it; and impregnating a blowing agent and carrying out the pre-expansion, and is characterized in that a radical species generation type crosslinking agent of which 10 hours half-life temperature is 100°C or higher and 125°C or lower is used, when the decomposition amount of the crosslinking agent is 50% or less, 10 or more pts.wt. and 30 pts.wt. or less of the blowing agent is added into 100 pts.wt. of the styrene modified polyethylene based resin particle, and the cross-linking reaction is performed under the presence of the blowing agent at the temperature of 120°C or higher and 150°C or lower.
