A collector (21) for containing excrement of an animal (20), such as an agricultural animal, comprises an excrement container (1 ) for containing excrement to be excreted by the animal (20). The collector (21) further comprises a harness (4) for fastening the container (21) to the animal, and a sensor (11) for measuring a parameter on the excrement. An environment for keeping an animal (20), such as an agricultural animal, comprises an animal accommodation for keeping the animal therein and a collector (21) to be connected to the animal (20) to be kept in the animal accommodation for collecting excrement of the animal (20). Furthermore, a sensor (11) may be provided for measuring a parameter on the excrement to be excreted by the animal (20).
