A composition for skin whitening is provided to improve skin aging, chloasma or fleck and to be used as cosmetic, food, drugs and soap composition. A composition for skin whitening includes an extract selected from the group consisting of ginseng extract and bamboo extract as an active ingredient. The skin whitening is generated by hindering melanogenesis. The ginseng extract is obtained by extracting ginseng in ethanol, water or a mixed solvent thereof. The bamboo extract is obtained by extracting the bamboo in ethanol, water or a mixed solvent thereof.
