PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new-type color display device having excellent display characteristics, in particular, a color display device making use of the color generation or color elimination by electrochromic. SOLUTION: A display device is provided with; an electrochromic layer (13), which can reversibly generate or eliminate color, and a color filter layer (11) between a first electrode (7) and a second electrode (21). Thus, color display can be performed by using the electrochromic layer and the color filter layer. By laminating the electrochromic layer and the color filter layer, position alignment becomes easy, and an aperture rate is improved. Accordingly, display characteristics are improved.
