<p>Method of resistance welding long metal components, e.g. tubes, placed end to end, utilising the release of prior stored energy to give the required pressure. Two pairs of clamping devices are attached to the first tube and then compressed towards each other. A welding machine component, e.g. joint bar bonded to these is then elastically stretched. A further clamping device compresses the second tube against the first tube. To resistance weld, the compressive and tensile energies are released, thus creating a high uniform pressure at the butt interfaces. Good quality welds are obtained and heavy hydraulic equipoment is avoided.</p> |
