PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of high-speed operation by shortening communication time with an interchangeable lens or various accessories. SOLUTION: The camera includes a memory such as a flash memory 235 or an SDRAM 237 in which lens data concerning two or more kinds of mountable interchangeable lens barrels 100 can be registered, and a body CPU 229 which performs drive control of a mounted photographic lens in accordance with the lens data registered in the memory, and has a step (lens communication 2) to acquire the lens data from the interchangeable lens barrel 100 and register it in the memory in response to first operation (steps S9, S23 and S25), and a step (lens communication 1) to decide whether or not the lens data on the mounted interchangeable lens barrel 100 is registered in the memory, and acquire the lens data from the interchangeable lens barrel 100 and register it in the memory when deciding that the lens data are not registered therein in response to second operation (steps S1 and S5).
