A compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof: wherein X is an oxygen or sulphur atom A is CH(R⁶)-, -O- or NR⁷ or when A is NR⁷, then R¹ and NR⁷ can together form a ring such that R¹ and R⁷ are (CH₂)_n, where n is 2-4, preferably 2-3; Y is a bond, CH(R⁶)-, -O- or NR⁷ or A and Y together form a single bond between the aromatic group and the carbonyl group but when A is-O- then Y is not -O-; R¹ and R² are independently hydrogen, halogen, OR⁸, NR⁹R¹⁰, NR⁹COR¹¹, NR⁹SO₂R¹¹ or C_1-6alkyl optionally substituted by fluorine, hydroxyl, C_1-6 alkoxy or NR⁹R¹⁰; R³ is C_1-6 alkyl, C_3-8 cycloalkyl C_4-10 alkylcycloalkyl optionally substituted by hydroxyl, C_1-6 alkoxy or NR⁹R¹⁰; R⁴ is hydrogen, halogen, CF₃, OR⁹, NR⁹R¹⁰, NR⁹COR¹¹, NR⁹SO₂R¹¹ or C_1-6 alkyl optionally substituted by hydroxyl, C_1-6 alkoxy or NR⁹R¹⁰; R⁵ is hydrogen, halogen, CF₃, OR⁸, COOR⁹, CONR⁹R¹⁰ or SO₂R¹¹; The compounds find use in the treatment of amyloid related diseases, such as Alzheimer disease.
