A honeycomb structure that is high in porosity, attaining effective collection of PM and reduction of pressure loss. There is provided a columnar honeycomb structure having multiple cells disposed in parallel with a wall portion interposed therebetween along the longitudinal direction thereof, characterized in that the honeycomb structure is composed mainly of inorganic fibers, these inorganic fibers joined into an integral form.
