PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package for an optical semiconductor element capable of taking an effective measure against stray light, and an optical pickup device.

SOLUTION: The package for an optical semiconductor element includes a stem 10 for mounting at least light-emitting and light-receiving semiconductor elements respectively and a protective cap 20 having a light transmitting window 24 provided to allow light to transmit through each element and the outside and adapted to airtightly seal the stem 10. A matte palladium plated film 12 is coated on a surface of the stem 10.
