<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a cell output voltage in a cell for a fuel battery. <P>SOLUTION: The cell 10 for a fuel battery has a membrane electrode assembly 26 including an electrolyte film 12, a cathode catalyst layer 16 laminated at a cathode side of the electrolyte film 12, and an anode catalyst layer 14 laminated at an anode side of the electrolyte film 12 and containing a water-retention material 30. The anode catalyst layer 14 has a gas supply side zone layer 32 laminated at a supply side of fuel gas, a gas discharge side zone layer 34 laminated at a discharge side of the fuel gas, and an intermediate zone layer 36 laminated between the gas supply side zone layer 32 and the gas discharge side zone layer 34.
