PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To learn the most retarded phase without deteriorating emission performance. SOLUTION: An ECU executes a program including a step (S102) of controlling an intake VVT mechanism so that a phase changes in a second range of including no most retarded phase when driving an engine (YES in S100), a step (S114) of controlling the intake VVT mechanism so that the phase is brought to the mechanically determined most retarded phase when executing a fuel cut (YES in S110) or when a hybrid car travels in a second traveling mode of using driving force of only an MG 2 in a state of stopping the engine (YES in S112), and a step (S116) of learning a phase detected by a cam position sensor as the most retarded phase.
