The transmission i.e. eight speed automatic transmission (10), has four shafts or interconnecting members (42, 44, 46, 48), and five torque transmitting devices e.g. brakes, selectively engaged to interconnect respective nodes (14A-14C, 16A-16C, 18A-18C, 20A-20C) of four planetary gear sets (14, 16, 18, 20) and a stationary member i.e. transmission housing, with each other.
