SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IDENTIFICATION OF DESIRED TRAITS IN ANIMALS

A simple, reliable method and computer readable storage method and system for identifying desirable traits in animals, is. provided. The invention provides an absolute genetic description and determination of potential for an animal based on a genetic marker or set of genetic markers for identifying desirable traits in animals. The method includes DNA testing a group or several groups of animals for the presence of a. particular DNA marker or set of DNA markers relating to the desired trait for which all animals have existing measured data ("Phenotype") for the desired trait; categorizing the presence of alleles from the DNA testing results as to whether the animal has 0, 1 or 2 copies of the favorable allele for each DNA marker; preparing a comparison chart for each real and potential combination of DNA testing results from any animal; analyze the DNA test results, along with measured data, and through statistical analysis establish a value or projected value for every possible result combination, which value, or a rounded or a statistical value shall become the base number for a Genetic Progeny Difference (GPD) for the desired trait; and once established, as other animals are DNA tested for the markers for a specific trait, the results will be compared to a table and assigned a GPD for the specific trait.
