PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner for a chain set around a driving sprocket and a follower sprocket, capable of giving tensions at all times to both one-side chain portion to run on one side of the chain and the other chain portion running on the other side. SOLUTION: The chain tensioner 30 is to adjust the tension of a transmitting roller chain 14 set over endlessly on the driving sprocket 12 and the follower sprocket 13 arranged with the prescribed span reserved in between, and is equipped with the upper rolling roller 31 to roll in contacting with the upper chain portion 14a of the transmitting roller chain 14, the lower rolling roller 32 to roll in contacting the lower chain portion 14b of the roller chain 14, and an energizing means 33 to make energization by pressing the two rollers 31 and 32 to the respective mating chain portions 14a and 14b.
