A method and an apparatus for providing automatic response service in a mobile communication network are provided to prevent infinite looping of automatic response message transmission between mobile clients by displaying information about whether to use emoticon message repeatedly. If it requests for a short message to be transmitted from a first mobile client to a second mobile client, the second mobile client determines whether the second mobile client is an automatic response emoticon service user(S202). If so, a repetition message indicator is inserted to the response message after extracting response message by analyzing the message of the fist mobile client(S216). The extracted emoticon information is added to the response message and transmit it to the first mobile client after extracting emoticon information corresponding to the response message(S220). |
