<p>The tubing is made by bending of a strip into a tube, aligning the strip edges, butt welding together of the edges, planing of the weld, and cooling, care being taken that the tube is securely held before and after cooling to prevent distortion. The tube is formed into its final shape after cooling. The prefd. machine incorporates a sword shaped slot guide for the formed tubing into the welding station. The method is used for non-circular cross section tube making, where it is desirable for the weld seam to run along one of the obtuse angle edges.</p> |
