Providing location- based services in a mobile communication system

A system for providing LBS in a mobile communication system. An AAA server manages information on an anchor authenticator(AA) of an ASN GW. Upon receipt of a location information service request message from an LBS client, a location information server receives routing information for routing to an AA of an associated mobile station from the AAA server, and transmits a request for location information of the mobile station to the ASN GW. Upon receipt of the location information request from the location information server, a location information controller performs a location estimation procedure between the mobile station and an interconnected base station when the mobile station is in the idle mode, and upon receipt of location information from the base station, transmits the received location information to the location information server.
