<p>The method involves deriving the temperature of the medium from the temperature dependence of a physical parameter of piezoelectric transducers (1,2). The value derived from it for the determination of the characteristic of the flowing medium is supplied as a variable. An ultrasonic signal is send or received for run time difference measurement, and deflection of the temperature takes place at the same piezoelectric transducer. An independent claim is also included for an ultrasonic counter for the determination of the flow or volume of a flowing medium, particularly a liquid or a gas.</p>
