The force required to be exerted on the card to move it from a flat to a folded configuration is detected 12 and then compared with predetermined parameters. If the comparison is favourable the card is deemed to have been manufactured to acceptable parameters. The apparatus includes a pivoting movable plate 4 onto which force is exerted by a portion of the sheet material as the sheet material is moved to the folded configuration (figs 2 and 3). The sheet material passes under bar 30 and one end of the sheet material lies against stop bar 28. Detection means 14, 18, 20-26 are connected to the plate to generate a value indicative of the force detected. A second embodiment (fig 4) makes use of a different detection means. |
