Prior art photoelectric cells suffer from higher production costs and lower efficiency than is desirable in many power supply applications. In order to alleviate these problems, a hybrid matrix composition is provided, comprising a matrix (220), characterised by a plurality of metal oxide particles (222) disposed within the matrix (220), wherein the composition is such that the particles (222) are arrangeable within the matrix (220) by application of an external stimulus into a conduction configuration enabling electron transfer between adjacent members of at least one subset of the particles within the matrix, each subset comprising a plurality of particles. The hybrid matrix composition exhibits a photoelectric effect and is particularly suitable for use as a photoelectric layer in a photoelectric cell. Preferably, the metal oxide particles (222) are arrangeable into at least one row. The metal oxide particles (222) may be coated with a layer of an organic dye having high light absorption in the visible-ultraviolet region.
|
