Electronic sensor with optimised counting capacity

The sensor (100) has a comparator (106) producing a signal having x impulse during given capturing duration such that a' is less than x that is less than b', where a', b' and x are non-zero whole numbers. An analog counter (114), preferably based on a comparator and associated transistors, receives the signal which increases at each impulse. The counter has a maximum capacity equal to z such that b'-a'>= z lesser than a', where z is a natural non-zero whole number. The counter re-initializes counting, when the maximum count is exceeded and delivers a representative number of impulses of the signal in an output after the capturing operation. An independent claim is also included for a method for metering number of impulse of a signal produced by an electronic sensor during given capturing duration.
