934,250. Collating sheets. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. Nov. 3, 1961 [Dec. 1, 1960], No. 39526/61. Class 100 (1). Sheets delivered from a conveyer 17 between rollers 18, 19 and guides 20, 21 are received successively in successive compartments of an intermittently rotated compartmented drum. The drum comprises a cylindrical member 7 rotatable about a shaft 3 and a series of radiallyextending plates 5 mounted on the member 7 and forming the compartments of the drum. The compartments are closed at one end by a circular plate 6 and are open at the other end. The plates 5 are bent over at their outer ends as shown. A flap 9 is carried by a pin 8 rotatably mounted on one side of each plate 5. Each flap 9 is pivoted near its free end to one end of a supporting member 10, comprising a number of parallel bars, the other end of which is slidable in openings in the member 7. The pins 8 project through the plate 6 and have arms 11 fixed thereto. Follower rollers 12 on the arms 11 are held in engagement with a stationary cam 13 by springs 14. This results in a supporting member 10 being normally in a position parallel to its associated plate 5 and enclosing in conjunction therewith and with the flap 9 a relatively narrow space. When the roller 12 passes over the high point 16 of the cam 13 the supporting member 10 is moved away from its associated plate 5 so as to form therewith a relatively wide, open-mouthed compartment into which a sheet is delivered from between the guides 20, 21. After the roller has passed over the high point the compartment is again narrowed and closed by movement of the member 10. This has the effect of retaining sheets in the compartment when the latter moves below the horizontal centre-line of the drum and preventing flimsy sheets from buckling under their own weight whilst in the compartment. Collated sheets are withdrawn from the compartments through the open ends thereof. U.S.A. Specification 2,936,167 is referred to. |
