A method and an apparatus for providing and using public transportation information are provided to facilitate a selection of a transportation unit for reaching a destination by providing transfer information from one type to other type public transportation. A public transportation type and route identification information thereof are generated. Information about a current position of the travelling transportation unit belonged to the route of the transportation unit is generated. A component including the generated information is generated. The information is used for identifying a station or a section between stations where the transportation unit is.
