The invention relates to a drive unit (11) for a circuit breaker (10). The drive unit comprises a control unit (17) for controlling opening and closing operations of the circuit breaker. The drive unit is characterised in that it comprises a separate power backup unit (19) for providing power backup to the control unit during a power failure.
