An assist map tuning method and an electric power steering apparatus are provided to reduce a memory capacity of an EPS(Electric Power Steering) apparatus by tuning the assist map accurately through a few control points. A predetermined number of control points for determining a shape of a NURBS(Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) curve is inputted and stored(S310). An assist current corresponding to a torque value is determined by performing interpolation by the NURBS curve by using the previously stored control point when the torque value is inputted from a torque sensor(S330). The assist current is outputted to a motor(S340).
