A method for generating a firmware update file and a method and a device for updating firmware by using the firmware update file are provided to restrain indiscreet update of firmware by limiting the firmware update according to hardware models, thereby improving the security of the firmware programs. A firmware update file generating method includes the steps of generating data body including firmware program codes to be updated(110), generating data header including model codes of hardware to which the generated data body is to be applied(120), and generating a firmware update file in combination with the generated data body and header(130).
