A highly branched organic modifier, its preparation method, the organically modified clay treated with the organic modifier, and a nanocomposite resin containing the clay are provided to improve the dispersion to water and a polar organic solvent and to enhance the thermal stability and mechanical properties of a nanocomposite resin. A highly branched organic modifier is prepared by reacting a tertiary amine compound having at least two hydroxyl groups at terminal and at least one multifunctional monomer having at least two functional groups capable of reacting a hydroxyl group at both terminals represented by the Ax-R-By, wherein R is a C1-C20 aliphatic or aromatic group or its derivative; A and B are a hydroxyl group, an amine group, an epoxy group or a carboxyl group; x is 1 or 2; y is an integer of 1-4; and the functionality of the multifunctional monomer is 2-6.
