<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine any transverse deviation double feed of a printing medium in a discriminating manner from the skew. <P>SOLUTION: As shown in (a), when paper sheets are normally set and conveyed, the initial paper width W0 is matched with the theoretical value of the paper sheet. Further, the paper widths W1, W2, W3, etc. are all theoretical values, and the difference ΔW1 (=W1-W0), ΔW2, ΔW3, etc. are substantially zero. On the other hand, as shown in (b), when the paper sheet is obliquely set, the initial paper width W0 is not matched with the theoretical value. Further, as shown in (c), when any transverse deviation double feed occurs, the initial paper width W0 is matched with the theoretical value. However, when a PW (Paper Width) detector detects only the paper sheets, the paper widths W1, W2, etc. are substantially same (the paper width W1) as the initial paper width W0. When the PW detector detects other paper sheets overlapping in a transversely deviating manner, the paper width becomes a suddenly increased value (the paper width W2) compared with the previous value, and the difference ΔW2 (=W2-W0) exceeds the threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
