PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device or the like capable suppressing the reduction of contrast. SOLUTION: When an elimination step is performed, a pulsed voltage which rises in a positive direction and has an application time T1 and a voltage value of 50V is first applied once. After a time T3 passes after application of this voltage, a pulsed voltage which rises in the positive direction and has an application time T2 and a voltage value of 50V is applied N1 times at intervals of a time T3. When a write step is performed, a pulsed voltage which rises in a negative direction and has the application time T1 and a voltage value of -50V is first applied once. After the time T3 passes after application of this voltage, a pulsed voltage which rises in the negative direction and has the application time T2 and a voltage value of -50V is applied N1 times at intervals of the time T3.
