An aqueous dispersion of a polymer, obtainable by emulsion polymerization of compounds (monomers) having unsaturated radicals in the presence of at least two different polymerization regulators A) and B), wherein A) is a compound selected from alpha-methylstyrene dimer and hydrocarbons which form a pentadienyl or 1-phenylallyl radical on abstraction of a hydrogen atom and B) is a compound having a mercapto group, the amount of B) being more than 2 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of monomers.
