<p>A method and a system for using a G-pCell database to provide a network-based positioning service to mobile terminals according to their locations are provided to improve the accuracy of positioning by selectively using either a G-pCell pattern matching algorithm or a TDOA(Time Difference Of Arrival) positioning algorithm according to an approximate location of a mobile terminal. A system for using a G-pCell database to provide a network-based positioning service to mobile terminals according to their locations comprises an NPS(Network Positioning Server)(172) and an SPC(SUPL(Secure User Plane Location) Positioning Center)(170). The NPS stores a neighbor BS(Base Station) database and the G-pCell database. The SPC, if a positioning request is received from a mobile terminal(100), analyzes a BS signal received from the mobile terminal and grasps the location of a BS(110). In case the number of neighbor BSs obtained through the analysis of the BS signal is smaller than the number of neighbor BSs obtained through the neighbor BS database, the SPC applies a G-pCell pattern matching algorithm to determine the location of the mobile terminal.</p> |
