<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure high safety by displaying not a still picture but a moving picture under a prescribed condition when the still picture is displayed in a display device. <P>SOLUTION: The relative position and displacement of forceps 2 with respect to an endoscope 1 are recognized based on a transmitter 71 attached to the endoscope 1 and a position sensor 72 attached to the forceps 2. When the forceps 2 are displaced within a prescribed range AR close to the distal end of the endoscope 1, a treatment tool sensing part 7 senses the forceps 2 and performs control to allow a monitor 3M to display the moving picture. Consequently, even when the still picture is displayed in the monitor 3M, control is performed to allow the monitor 3M to automatically display the moving picture thereby allowing an operator to reliably obtain the latest state of the forceps 2.
