<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color separation optical system capable of improving color reproducibility by providing characteristics close to ideal spectroscopic characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The color separation optical system 1 separates incident light L into four color light components of three color light components of blue color light LB, red color light LR and green color light LG and cyan color light LC. The cyan color light LC is a fourth color light component used for correction of color reproduction of the red color light LR. Imaging devices 4B, 4R, 4G, 4C for respective color lights such as CCD are arranged on positions corresponding to the respective color lights separated by the color separation optical system 1. The imaging device includes a calculation circuit 60 which calculates a signal value Rs' of red color corrected by a prescribed calculation, on the basis of the signal value Cs' obtained by the imaging device 4R for red color light and a signal light value Cs obtained by the imaging device 4C for cyan color light.
