<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure device which can be formed in a simple and inexpensive structure and can attain a high resolution and a long life, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Light emitting elements 12, 12, ... are formed and staggered. The exposure device consists of a light emitting element array 18 of an odd number column comprised of odd-numbered organic EL light emitting parts 12 and a light emitting element array 19 of an even number column comprised of even-numbered organic EL light emitting parts 12. At the time of exposure of lighting data to one main scan direction, either one of the light emitting element array 18 of the odd number column and the light emitting element array 19 of the even number column is used. For example, when switching conditions such as the number of output pages, a light emitting time and the like are held, the light emitting element array 18 of the odd number column and the light emitting element array 19 of the even number column are switched as a light emitting element array to be used.
