<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing break of a line image and a change in line width as much as possible, thereby improving image quality. <P>SOLUTION: When a break detecting section 48 detects a break and when a line width detecting section 49 determines that an image forming section 21 forms an image of a line narrower than the line width represented by line image data output from a pattern paper output section 46, a data correcting section 50 corrects the black (BK) image data corresponding to a line image in a text read in an ordinary image formation operation. In this case, the data correcting section 50 corrects data so that the image data has a line width thicker than the line image represented by the image data. If the line width detecting section 49 determines that the image forming section 21 forms an image of a line thicker than the line image represented by the line image data output from a pattern sheet output section 46, the data correcting section 50 corrects the black image data corresponding to the line image in the text read in the ordinary image forming operation.
