PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve power saving by driving a recording device for recording measurement information about plant equipment only when monitoring is necessary. SOLUTION: A plant monitoring system has a sensor 2 installed in plant equipment for measuring information about the equipment; at least one recording device 1 for recording measurement information from the sensor and having a wireless communication function; a base station 4 for performing wireless communication with the recording device; and a monitoring device 5 connected to the base station for monitoring the plant equipment or the condition of the plant based on the measurement information about the plant equipment, recorded in the recording device. The recording device operates according to the time to start the plant equipment or the plant, operating hours, operating conditions about the period of inspection, or changes in the operating condition of the plant equipment.
