A software extension that monitors a hardware-level or operating system-level representation of the visual state of a running computer application. The software extension processes the time-sequence of visual information extracted to approximate some of the internal, non-graphical application data structures and program state. The software transforms, refines, or augments the data acquired with acquired personal data or network data to form derived data. The derived data then is presented to the user to create a new application feature. This presentation may be displayed alongside the application or operating system's existing graphical user interface.
