PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a length information acquisition method by which length information for the length of a prescribed part in a magnetic recording medium can be acquired without breaking the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: When length information for a length L1a along a thickness direction of a magnetic disk 1A between a surface of a recording layer 14 (a recording material for forming a recording region) which constitutes projecting parts 21 and a surface of a non-magnetic material 15 (a non-magnetic material for forming a non-magnetic recording region) on the recording layer 14 is acquired in the magnetic disk 1A (the magnetic recording medium) wherein protrusion 21 formation regions (recording regions) and recess 22 formation regions (non-recording regions) are regulated to be alternately arranged, current value measuring processing measuring conduction current values of each part of the surface of the magnetic disk 1A is executed by a conductive AFM measuring method and length information is acquired based on the current values of each part measured by the current value measuring processing.
