PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of reducing the cytotoxicity of interferon-αand the interferon-αin which the cytotoxicity is reduced, and further to provide human interferon-αanalogs with low cytotoxicity, and therapeutic applications of the low-toxicity interferon-αanalogs. SOLUTION: The cytotoxicity of the interferon-αis reduced by making defined amino acid substitutions in the N-terminal portion of the polypeptide sequence.
