Disclosed is a Li-Ni complex oxide particle powder for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, which has high charge/discharge capacity while being excellent in thermal stability during charging. Specifically disclosed is a Li-Ni complex oxide particle powder for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, wherein a secondary particle as the nucleus has a composition represented by: Li<SUB>x1</SUB>Ni<SUB>1-y1-z1-w1</SUB>Co<SUB>y1</SUB>Mn<SUB>z1</SUB>M<SUB>w1</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> (wherein 0.9 = x1 = 1.3, 0.1 = y1 = 0.3, 0.0 = z1 = 0.3, 0 = w1 = 0.1, and M represents at least one metal selected from Al and Fe), and an Li-Ni complex oxide having a composition represented by: Li<SUB>x2</SUB>Ni<SUB>1-y2-z2-w2</SUB>Co<SUB>y2</SUB>Mn<SUB>z2</SUB>M<SUB>w2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> (wherein 0.9 = x2 = 1 + z2, 0 = y2 = 0.33, 0 = z2 = 0.5, 0 = w2 = 0.1, and M represents at least one metal selected from Al, Fe, Mg, Zr and Ti) covers or is present on the surface of the particle. |
