The switching element has a compression spring (7) that is guided in a housing (2) and a tappet (4), and a contact bridge (6a) formed in a U-shape. A snapping wire (5) is arranged in a recess in the tappet, and an upper retaining region for the compression spring is provided at the tappet. The retaining region points laterally upwards from outward directed wedge elements. An enclosure (3) snatches with its upper edge and a bulge, pointing within the element in the recess, at the tappet and/or at a lower region of an outer wall of the housing, and forms a sealing screen for the element.
