A client authentication system for requesting location information and a method thereof are provided to prevent the location information of a subscriber from being exposed to an illegal client by performing client authentication on the basis of client information, such as a P_ID(Product ID), a CP_IP(Contents Provider ID), and an LS_ID(Location Service ID), which is delivered from a client which requests the location information of a terminal user. A client authentication system consists of a client(10) and a location information provider server(20). The client is an LBS(Location Base Service) server which provides various supplemental services to a mobile terminal(30) on the basis of the location information of the mobile terminal. The location information provider server comprises an authentication part(23) and a location information providing part(25). The authentication part approves client information which is transmitted from the client when the client applies for an account, and stores the approved client information. If a location information request message to request the location information of the mobile terminal is received from the client, the authentication part authenticates the client on the basis of the client information contained in the location information request message. Based on an authentication result from the authentication part, the location information providing part requests the mobile terminal to measure its own present location if the client is a legitimate client, receives the measured location information from the mobile terminal, and transmits it to the client. |
